Sami's Life Lately: The Good and The Bad

Hi,

I hope you are well and if you are celebrating Easter this weekend, Happy Easter! 🐣It’s been a while since our last email and A LOT has happened this year! Some things good and others not so much. So let me catch you up with Sami's life lately.

We NEUTERED Sami at the end of last year

We decided that neutering was the best thing to do for him, since we learned that he has a cyst on his prostate and our vet’s advice was to get him “fixed”. He is 6 years old and we thought it was about time. I vlogged the whole week of the surgery.

Now, 4 months since his surgery, I think it was THE BEST decision we made. Since spaying him he became more playful and cuddly! ❤️ I didn’t think this would happen - and certainly everyone told me not to get my hopes up, that castrating an adult dog will not change his behavior, but it did. Sami now plays every day, which he never did before, and he even plays with other dogs!! I can’t tell you how happy this makes me!

Sami is eating HEALTHIER every day!

Some of the healthy foods I feed Sami in his meals are sweet potatoes, sardines, tuna, pumpkin, blueberries, zucchini, beetroot, spinach, papaya and more! 🍠 🫐 🥦 Some of these he adores, but some he won’t even touch.

So I filmed his reaction to trying each ingredient - and some of these are hilarious!

…on a less happy note…

We discovered that Sami has arthritis 😔

This was the most difficult thing that happened lately.

In January, Sami did some crazy zoomies in the house and the next day he started limping. For three months he kept limping and we kept him on rest, short walks and anti-inflammatory meds. In this time we saw two different orthopedic veterinarians, did X-Rays on his paws and even did a CT scan. No one could figure out what the problem was.

At some point one vet had the idea to X-Ray Sami’s fingers (on his left paw, which is the injured paw) and he found a tiny fracture which caused arthritis to develop. Poor baby has some pain there, which is why he limps more when he wakes up after a nap.

We are now giving Sami joint supplements and adding turmeric to his meals (which is a natural anti-inflammatory) and we are making sure that he gets enough daily exercise to help with his mobility.

Last week we started acupuncture and our vet says it will help. We are also looking into hydro therapy, where dogs walk on a treadmill under water - and this supposedly will help a lot too.

At this point this is everything we are doing to help Sami feel better. 🥰

Let us know if you have any advice for us! 💌

And to end on a happy note…

Sami’s reaction to when I come home

I work from home, so usually Sami is with me all day. But sometimes he stays home alone for an hour or two, while I go to the gym or grocery shopping. He naps and when I come back he is SO HAPPY, wagging his tail and showing me his teeth and giving me kisses. 💕 It’s the best time of the day!!

That’s everything we’ve been up to lately!
